Country Music Lyrics
Undoubtedly the most popular form of music today is country music with an audience of 77.3 million people weekly. One of the reasons of its popularity is the country music lyrics. The roots of country music are traced back to Appalachia, especially Tennessee, West Virginia, and Kentucky. The hills of these states were full of people who entertained themselves before the invention of television by playing the instruments they had and singing songs handed down for generations. The fiddle, the mandolin, and the banjo were key instruments that define country music.
Country music can be traced back to 1920 however it didn't get too well known until the 1940s when the name hillbilly music, protested by many as being too associated with uneducated and ignorant people, was changed to country music. This really caught on in the 1970s and artists such as Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings became more of a household name.
Immigrants to the Appalachian area brought their instruments with them when leaving their native home. Instruments such as the guitar, the banjo, and the mandolin were among the first used in the development of country music. The mingling of these instruments produced a unique style of music and brought people together to play their music and sing. One of the great artists from West Virginia is Jimmie Rogers. He wrote a great many songs with country music lyrics that people can relate to.
The popularity of country music is believed to be that the songs express the experiences of people who have lost loves, lost homes, and the wishes and hopes of the person portrayed in the song. Being able to relate to the song is what makes it a big seller. The sad songs of loosing your love to another and the suffering and wondering what if I could do it over again are all popular when it comes to writing the perfect country song. This has been evidenced by the number of records that are being sold everywhere from scalpers in the parking lot when the concert time is starting.
Many of the artists of todays country music are newcomers to the scene. Many have been discovered at talent shows where everyone gets a chance to do their thing. Today's country music varies quite a bit from the old timey music. The first performers of country music ballads such as Kitty Wells, Patsy Cline, and Tammy Wynette set the tone for the early country music and are sadly missed. Then there are the in between performers such as Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Trisha Yearwood. Their songs normally tell a story. Some of the best songs on earth are written and performed containing sad times and the loss of a spouse.
